Summer Fun kit release

Hello! Sandra here again with my last layout of three using the gorgeous Seabreeze kit.
Now, I have to be honest here. I struggle with the colour purple and I must admit to thinking.. EEEK!! purple!! when I saw the purple cardstock and the lavender re-inker.
But as one of the girls has already said.. the inclusion was a stroke of genius by Beck.
It took me out of my comfort zone.. making be think hard and then I just decided to PLAY with it.
And now I just love the neutral, aqua and purple colour combo.

I was inspired to create a different background after watching a video tutorial by

 Donna Mays AKA
The One Minute Muse.

All you need is string and ink.!!

And this is the background I achieved.
Different and unique.



I then created the layout, using remaining strips of paper. I created my own flowers which I lightly enhanced with the Tinby Metallic Melts that comes in the kit.
Using the lavender ink I altered some generic white flowers to purple flowers.. (easy.. just dip them in! mind you they do take a while to dry. ;-) )

 

Don't you just LOVE the butterfly that is in the kit? Divine.

Using the Tinby Metallic Melts I created a "patina" affect.

 

I love the end result. Proving that Tinby Metallic Melts can be used on anything!

Loving all the different layouts created by the DT  from the one kit..

Fly! Be Free!!

Hello again everyone!
Sandra here with my share using the totally gorgeous Sea Breeze kit.

This kit is definitely one of the favourite kits amongst the Scrappy Chat Design Team.
The gorgeous sea tones in the kit and the beautiful Prima papers made me think of BEACH straight away and they inspired me to create a layout using one of my favourite beach photos.. again! (This will be the third time scrapping this particular photo, do you scrap the same photo more than once?)

 

I wanted more birds on my layout than were in the chipboard pack that comes with the kit, so I created some more, using the negative from the pack and some texture paste.
 I marked with a pencil where I wanted them to go and then added the texture paste.

 

 



As you can see I have cut out a section of the background paper that will be hidden by the large photo, I can then use this piece of paper for another project.. waste not! want not! ;-)





I then assembled my page. I inked the chipboard birds and lighthouse white, the shell celadon and left the sea grasses natural.

Then it came time to create the title.
I used generic alphas for the Fly! Be part of the title part, but I wanted a more free flowing font for the Free part. ( and gosh darn it.. I had run out of the letter E .. again!!)
“Oh gosh”   I thought  “ I would really love a silhouette machine right now”
*sigh
But I have the next best thing.
A computer and a printer and a piece of white cardstock.

I created the title in Word Art
I found a font I liked, made it “Bold”
flipped it horizonally so that it was backwards and then printed this on the BACK of the white cardstock.
This way, when you cut it out you won’t see any print marks on your title.



 

 

Fussy cut your title out, making sure your craft knife is sharp and adhere to your layout.

And your layout is complete!

I hope this inspires you to create a layout using a LARGE photo.. it comes together really quickly.
And if you don’t have that font you want in your alpha stash.. create your own!

The Geek.

Sandra here with my  second share with you using the Dreams Imagined kit

 

I had a bit of a play with this one and just had fun with it.
I placed some of the Kaisercraft number alphas onto the page,
sprayed some black spray onto an acrylic block and just "whacked" it onto the alphas.
My goodness you should see the mess under the photo! lol
The "blobs" did end up being more solid than I anticipated so I added some stamping and a few sprays here and there.. and ended up with an even bigger mess!!! But I kinda liked it.
Once dried I peeled the alpha stickers off, leaving a cool mask.

 

.

I made the glasses from the black card that comes in the kit.
I used a paper piecing template I found online.
(Scrapbook Etc)
(the white bit is double sided tape.. without taking the protective side off, it matched the insulation tape used on the real glassed perfectly.)

 

 

 

 

Outlining parts of the journaling tags and elements help make them pop.

 

Sometimes even the barcodes from the papers are a perfect touch.. plus a bulldog clip I nicked from my husbands office... shhhh!! ;-)
and the finishing touch were some of the diamonds which I had already sprayed white from my first layout. Too easy!

 

 

And there it is .. my second layout.
I'll see you soon with my third layout... hmmmm.... might go a bit "prettier" with the next one. .. using the flowers in the kit.. and maybe making my own. ;-)

 

 

 



Love at First Sight

Hello There!
Sandra here again with my third and last layout using the gorgeous Hello Kit.

As with the other layouts I used  a Page Drafts sketch for my layout
this time I used sketch number 23_1

I used the IZINK with impasto to create the background.
The IZINK turned a gorgeous yellow when I mixed it with the clear impasto...




I had fun creating my own flower and leaves with left over cardstock and paper (and I still have plenty of sheets left!!)

and making a heart with the paper twine (that stuff is seriously cool!)

playing with a border punch, sequins and yep, that super fun stamp set.

This kit has been so much fun!

And as you can see by what Heather, Renee and Beck have created there are so many different ways to be inspired by it!

Missing you Today

Sandra here again with my second layout from the "Hello" kit

--This layout is out for publication-- 

 With all my layouts this month I went to PageDrafts for a kick start

for this layout I used sketch number 46

To create the background I diluted the IZINK ink in water and put it in a spray bottle and lightly misted the background.

Then using the awesome stamps in the kit  and the mango gelato I stamped the background.  (spray the stamp with water before adding the gelato to create a delicious water colour affect)

using a paint brush and adding a stronger solution of IZINK and water I dropped a few drops next to the stamped spots and also spread it around with the paint brush.

Dry with a heat gun.

I then painted and sprayed the background with both diluted IZINK and mango Gelato.

Dried with a heat gun and then stamped with randomly with a script stamp and doodled a border.

Then I created the layout.

the flowers I made with one of the pieces of white cardstock.. I coloured them with IZINK and mango Gelato.

The paper twine was wrapped around a skewer to give a cute little twirl.

I added some celadon ink to the title and then used the TINBY METALLIC MELTS to create a beautiful texture and colour, added some punched butterflies and some journaling and  it is complete.

I enjoyed playing with the IZINK and the Gelatos and discovering different ways to use them.

Hello again! Sandra here sharing with you the first of three layouts using this month's

Scrappy Chat Designs kit... “Hello”

I loved this kit!
It comes with gorgeous Pink Paislee and Heidi Swapp papers, a bottle of IZINK ink, a Double Scoop gelato stick, my favourite new stamp from Kaisercraft, title stickers, TINBY METALLIC MELTS..... oh it goes on!

Here is my first layout... Hello You..

and I thought I would do a step by step for you on how I put it together.

For all of my layouts this month I used sketches from a fantastic source...

 Page Drafts
I love using sketches and find they help with kick starting my designs , and also getting the most out of my papers .

 Em Stafrace designs some fantastic sketches that can be used for single photo layouts and those tricky multi photo layouts.
For this layout I used Sketch Number 11_2

I used 2 black and white photos which are 2.5 inches by 3 inches
(6.5cm x7.5cm)

*Firstly I trim the barcode strip off the Heidi Swapp Sugar Chic Adore Paper

*then, cut the doily in half and lightly ink edges with black ink

 Cut the script paper into 2 pieces
both 2.5inch across and 6 inch down

(approx 6cm x 15 cm)
and then ink them with black ink  

These will join together to create one long strip of patterned paper.

Cut arrow paper to size...
3 in by 6 in

(approx 8cm x 15cm)

and then ink with black ink

Trim orange “fleur de lys” pattern paper
6in across and 2in down
(15cm x 5cm)

cut in half at around the 3inch mark .
and ink with black ink.

Trim green ‘chevron’ paper to ¾ inch by  3inch

 (2cm x 8cm)

and ink with black ink
Arrange all the cut pieces.. including the doily onto the page as seen in the photo.
as you can see I “tucked” the orange pieces either side of the arrow paper and stick down.

Randomly stamp background with a script stamp ( I used Kaisercraft) and also with your ink/paint splat stamp from the kit using black ink.

Make Rosette flowers using the green triangle paper (15cm x 1.5 cm)
and Orange paper (I used 2 pieces and joined them together AFTER scoring  to make a larger strip of paper)
2 x 2.5cm x 15cm

punch 2 small circles for the centre of the rosette..
and ink with black ink.
attach to these and your photos to your layout

ink title using the  stickers and colour with  black ink

and adhere to your layout.

By now you should have some scrap pieces of paper

Now it’s time to create those paper beads!

On the back of the patterned paper mark out triangles
make a mark on the top of the paper every 2 cm
Then on the bottom of the paper measure in ONE centimetre and then make a mark every 2 cm
Using a pencil and a ruler draw down from the top left corner down to the ONE centimetre mark.
Then draw a line from the ONE centimetre mark to the next mark on the top of the paper.
you have created your first triangle.
Then  continue on creating triangles as in the photo below.

then cut out all of the triangles.

then using a skewer wrap your paper around it.. wide side of the triangle first....



Keep winding, making sure to use constant pressure, until you reach the tip of the triangle.

using a bit of glue (I use readily available white crafting glue)
stick down the tip to the rest of the bead.

I continue creating beads along the skewer until I have enough for what I need.
(tip.. insert the skewer into a block of florists oasis to keep it upright while drying)



cut paper twine to length and attach only one side to the layout (I used a stapler) then thread on the paper beads and then attach the other side)
Repeat on the other side of the banner to create a banner.

Add some journalling and your layout is complete!
