A Fun & Free Project!

Hello there Scrappy Chat friends! It's Heather here today with a layout that I had so much fun making, using the fabulous 'Fun & Free' kit.

I absolutely love this kit! It has so many wonderful goodies - a stencil, Metallic Melts, twine, bits & pieces, two amazing alcohol inks, cardstock and wow - that stunning Webster's Pages paper! I'm in love!

Here's what I made with it:

I took advantage of the stunning papers to make the background and title for my layout. Do you like the feathers? I show you how to make them in the Technique Sheet that gets mailed to all Scrappy Chat Designs members.

Here's a close up:

If you haven't used some of these products before, don't be concerned - the other Arty Chics and I will always share ideas and tips and tricks on how to use the products in the kits.

Arty Chics

Hi there. It's Heather back with you today with my second layout using the fabulous November "Rustic Goodness" kit.

One of the items in this kit is a Crafter's Workshop stencil that has the word "Art" on it. I was thinking of what words I could create with these letters - and then it hit me. Of course! Here's what I made (*winks):

Honestly, the Arty Chic ladies are the best! We regularly chat online, sharing all sorts of things. Sometimes the conversations are so funny and other times they're helpful or sometimes are even just a place to provide a shoulder to lean on. Even though some of us have never met in real life, we have an amazing online friendship.

But back to the layout! There are so many other words you can make with this stencil, you're not just limited to the word "Art". By using sections of some of the letters you could create Party, Heart (as in 'I Heart You'), Star, Pray, Hair, Sharp and so on. Think outside the square!

I coloured the Media Crackle Paste with paint and used this through the stencil to create the main word. I love how easy it is to use this Crakle Paste! The word 'chics' is made using old chipbord letters which I jazzed up with a bit of stamping with that wonderful triangles stamp.

The lines of colour are a mix of sprays which I sprayed under the paper then let them dribble down. For my journalling I coloured the letters with Textas or paints to achieve the colours I wanted. It's so easy to do this with many light coloured letter stickers.

I printed the photos on my home printer. Not all printers give this option but you could just print your photos small and place them in a strip like mine.

Here is some more info on the kits. Kits are still $39 plus postage and are great value for money as they're like doing three classes in your own home.
They are self-paced class classes that you can complete on your own or with a group of friends

Each month there will be LOADS of added inspiration with one of the designers creating 3 layouts of their own style with the kit while the other two ladies will be sharing some added techniques using the product in the kit, so you can learn more and more!

Each premier kit:
  • comes with video AND instructions to complete the three layouts
  • features many techniques with product to be used well after the life of the kit.  (With all of our kits you will have plenty of product and knowledge to add to future projects)
  • comes with photos of each project including close up detailed pictures
  • comes with all the product needed to complete the projects with a list of additional basic items used such as ink/ paints/gesso/texture paste and colour sprays you might need out of your supplies.
The kits focus on how to use various products teamed up with some stunning papers to compliment them. There are always less- or non-consumable products in our kits to help you complete some beautiful projects and learn many techniques and different ways of using the products.

Creating a "Front - Ground"

Hello Scrappy chat peeps. Fiona here with you again this month to share with you my layout I created from the November kit "Rustic Goodness".

This kit features some 'new product' less consumable product that you can find a bit more about and have a play with! Aside from the divine papers by Ruby Rock-it in the kit, there is Cardstock, loads of fun embellishments as well as one of the brand you DecoArt Media line products - crackle paste, there is a texture stamp, The Crafters Workshop stencil, and a sheet of alphas as well!

I've created what I call a "Front - Ground". That would be a layer of background techniques that have actually been placed on top of the layout sort of like an after thought but done deliberately.

It seems such a shame sometimes, to put all that effort into creating a background with awesome textural products, to then promptly cover it up with patterned paper and a photo.

So this time I didn't. Instead I created a frontground. To find out more about the technique I've used, you can subscribe to receive your kit.

Kits are still $39 + Postage with LOADS of value for you money, as it is like doing 3 classes - all in the comfort of your own home!

Here is some more information for those wanting a to know little more information about our kits.

Double the Fun in November!

Hello there.

It's Heather here today with my first layout using the November "Rustic Goodness" kit. Actually, this isn't just one layout - it's a double!

I like making double page layouts. So often we have multiple photos from one event that we want to scrap and they just won't fit on one page. I could have cut and rearranged my background cardstocks so I had the same colours on both pages but I love the effect of using the same or similar products across two different coloured backgrounds to create one double page.

In this instance, I used the same paints, Media Crackle Paste, stencil and papers across the two pages but used the kraft and the white cardstock as the backgrounds. It's interesting to see how the different cardstocks created quite different effects.

Here's what I did:

Step 1

Using a spatula or old credit card, swipe paint through the splat shapes on the fabulous Crafters Workshop stencil. I used Dusty in Colour Mountain Meadow paint but you could use any acrylic paint. Think about where you want the flow of elements to go. This is what my pages looked like at this stage:

Step 2

Mix a small amount of pink paint (I used Dusty in Colour Dusty Pink) with some Media Crackle Paste from the kit. Don't overload the colour or the paste won't crackle correctly. I spread this mix through the quatrefoil pattern of the Crafters Workshop stencil. This stencil truly is three stencils in one! Leave the Crackle Paste to air dry and it makes a gorgeous crackle without the hassle of mixing products. Here's what my pages looked like at this stage:

Step 3

While the backgrounds are drying, fussy cut some floral sections from the Zen Garden paper. Squirt some pink spray into its lid and, using a fine brush, paint the grey sections of the flowers. Highlight some sections with painted-on gold spray and paint on green spray for the leaves. I used Heidi Swapp sprays but you could use any sort or use watercolours or watered-down paints. Do the same with a butterfly.

Here's the finished effect:

Step 4

To create the title, I used the word section of the stencil and just painted through it. When using any stencil over a textured surface, the paint will always leak under the stencil as the stencil can't sit flat. I fixed this by outlining the letters with black pen but if you don't want this messier look then plan to leave the space under your title free from textured stenciling.

On the second page I used an ink pad through the word stencil to create a subtle background element.

This layout could also be recreated as two stand alone pages instead of a double.

I love the versatility of this month's kit! As always, there are interesting and unique products and loads of papers. If you'd like to order this kit or any others email orders.scrappychatdesigns@gmail.com.or check out the website here.

Happy scrappin'!

My Little Cub

Hi there. It's Heather with you today with the first of my layouts using the Freestyle kit. What a fabulous variety of products there are in this kit! I was able to create three very different pages, with very different themes and feels, all from the one kit.

Here's my first layout:

I had decided to use this photo of my son when he was little. I then picked up the stencil and saw the fluer-de-lis image. I couldn't believe it as this is the logo for the Cubs movement. It's on the toggle on Connor's scarf but you can't see it here.

Of course, I had to make a feature of the fluer-de-lis then. I used a piece of cardstock left over from the August kit, because it matched Connor's t-shirt. I took the bottle of Silk Luster, poured a little onto a craft mat, picked it up with a baby wipe and applied it through the stencil. If I had applied the Silk Luster straight onto the stencil, it would have run under the stencil and made an imperfect image as it's a very thin liquid. The end result is amazing. The silver really gives it some wow factor.

I then took the wet edge of the stencil and randomly stamped lines on my page with it. I punched out some of the star shapes and glued them at the end of the lines so they looked like shooting stars.

I also used the stenciling method above to stencil another pattern behind the photo mat. Don't you love having multiple stencils on one? I cut quite a few of the tickets out and used them as a feature down the side of the photo mat.

I finished off the page with a mix of different sized zig-zag and straight stitching and ran my journalling across the bottom.

If you would like more information about this kit you can email orders.scrappychatdesigns@gmail.com or check out the website here. Don't forget you get three instructional videos with each kit!

Reading on an October - I mean July - Afternoon.

Hi there. I hope your week has been going well.

I'm back with my last layout using the "Explore" kit from Scrappy Chat Designs. And for the first time, I've used the October Afternoon papers in the theme that they were made for!

The papers are called "Public Library". Here's my layout:

My daughter is like my husband and I - we all love to read. She was on holidays from uni when I took this photo. She spent a lot of time on the couch reading!

To make this layout I simply cut up sections of book spines from the 'Library Card' paper and sat them so they look they are stacked up behind the photo. I made a teeny tiny book from the papers too!

I did a bit of stenciling in the background using the gorgeous Crafter's Workshop stencil from the kit. I cut a quote from the 'Biography' paper and used that under my smaller photo.

Well I hope you've enjoyed my Scrappy Chat Designs layouts this month. If you're interested in getting the kits plus instructions and videos each month jsut drop a line to orders.scrappychatdesigns.gmail.com

The Colours of Bali

Hi and welcome to my second post for this month's Scrappy Chat Designs kit. This kit features some gorgeous October Afternoon papers. To show how versatile these papers are I thought I'd make a page that is about as far from the usual October Afternoon feel as you can get. My page is about Bali!

It's always hard to show a double page online so here are plenty of close ups:

Aren't those Tinby Metallic Melts divine? If you're a member you'll get full instructions on how I made this.

I had so much fun playing with the stencil, Distress Stain and Metallic Melts from the kit on this one.

If you're a Scrappy Chat Designs member then you will be emailed instructions on how I made this. As a member you get heaps of info every month showing techniques, tips and hints as well as a minimum of three videos showing how to make the key three layouts from each kit. Contact orders.scrappychatdesigns.gmail.com.for more info.

My Scrappy Mess

Hello everyone and welcome to the first of my posts using the new "Explore" kit from Scrappy Chat Designs. This has to be favourite kit of mine. It would be a worry if it wasn't cos I picked the papers for it - lol!

These October Afternoon papers are gorgeous. Even though October Afternoon papers look fabulous in their own right, I find they work really well on my pages. The layouts I make with them are usually not vintage or retro themed, as the papers would seem to dictate. I find they work well with all sorts of layout styles.

Here's what I mean:

There's nothing retro about this layout. It's about as modern as you can get!

Don't you just love the title? I found it on one of the sheets of paper. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to use it! I can see so many scrappers relating to it! Here's a closie:

The kit comes with a fabulous Crafter's Workshop stencil, some Distress Stain, Tinby Metallic Melts, cardstock, twine and enamel dots. I've only used two of these products plus the paper on this layout. I can't wait to show you what else I've made!

For those of you who are Scrappy Chat Designs members, a step by step process of how I made the background will be emailed to you. For those of you who aren't members take a look here to see if this might work for you. You get kits, instructions and videos delivered each month to your door or your inbox. How easy is that?

Brothers Exploring

Hi There Scrappy Chat Friends,

It's Renee here, to share with you a layout I have made using the April Kit.

This is my third layout, out of 3 that I have made using this super trendy kit!!

I always love an opportunity to scrap a layout of my beautiful boys!

I wanted to share with you a couple of the techniques and layers on how I put this layout together.

Step 1. I used the white cardstock from the kit.
I then grabbed the Irresistibles spray and a tray (you can use a small plate) and a cheap nail brush.

Step 2. I knew approximately where all the paper was situated on the layout as I had layered the paper before the first step.  I made a bracket with a pencil, so I knew where the papers were sitting.

I then sprayed the Irresistibiles onto a plate.
I dipped the nail brush into the spray, and made the following pattern.

Step 3. Using the Crafters Workshop Template from the kit, I also added that pattern with green ink.

Then using some stamps from previous Scrappy Chat Designs kits, I added in some various colored
blue inks.  Here is how it turned out.

Step 4.  Then I just added my paper stack and photo.

Step 5.  Add the chipboard fencing wire.

Step 6. Add some of the gridding from the kit to the top left and bottom right of the photo.

Step 7.  Add some sprayed gridding to the left and right of the page.

Step 8.  I added a little wound up navy blue cotton (found it in my sewing kit).

Step 9. Add your title and then journal.

And you are done!!!!
A very simple layout.

Here are a couple of close-ups.

I had a massive amount of fun with this layout and I was super happy with how it turned out.

You can see how fantastic the kits are, as we have all made very different layouts,
in a range of colours.

Thanks for stopping in.
And don't forget to check back on Sunday night, when the very talented
Sandra Wallace shares another layout with you.
